Dutch in New Zealand

About 4590 people in New Zealand received a pension from the Netherlands, which is mainly the Dutch AOW state pension, in March 2024. The Netherlands is the third-largest overseas pension source for NZ Super recipients (After the UK and Australia).

According to the 2018 Census: 19,329 residents were born in the Netherlands among who 6501 people were aged 65 or older. Many more, over 100,000, have Dutch Ancestry. Most of the retirees live in Manawatu, Waikato and Auckland.

AOW deduction affects NZ Super payments as set out in the Social Security Agreement between the Netherlands and New Zealand and explained on the website from work and income (https://www.workandincome.govt.nz/eligibility/social-security-agreements/netherlands/living-in-nz.html)
